Interview with Manchester Wire ahead of the show at the Manchester Jewish Museum

I had a wonderful time answering the interesting questions in the interview with Manchester Wire ahead of my trio’s concert at The Manchester Jewish Museum on the 25/11

Do you believe music can create change?

I believe music can bring change. I’m not naive, I don’t think that with only playing music we can change the world, there is a lot to be done. Growing up in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I know that there is a whole deep re-education to be made and of course political change, to be able to even think of peace.

But that said, I see how making music together brings people from so many different backgrounds together, it breaks boundaries, makes you discover other people’s culture and hear their personal stories. I find it really important for breaking stereotypes and inviting people to be curious, to know others and celebrate diversity rather than repress it. When I see in my concerts people from everywhere play, dance and celebrate together I know that I’m fulfilling my mission and it fills my heart with joy and energy to keep on in this creative journey.

I’ve been working on my solo project since the end of 2018, collaborating with musicians across the globe, performing, connecting with audiences, falling in love, grieving, dancing and mainly sharing my personal stories and stories of people dear to me, through song.

During the pandemic I was lucky to receive a grant from Arts Council England to develop my music with the award-winning producer and good friend Liran Donin. Together we spent hours, refining the sound, arranging music, drinking coffee and preparing to record my debut album.

In July 2021 I gathered my favourite musicians into my favourite studio in London - The Fish Factory. In four days we recorded nine songs. I couldn’t ask for a better dream team to bring my songs to life in the most sincere way possible.

Giuliano Osella- drums

Tomer Eldor- piano, keys and backing vocals

Phil Dawson- guitars

Nim Sadot- bass

Maurizio Ravalico- percussion

Special guests:

Seckou Keita- kora

Dembis Thioung - percussion: dun-duns, djembe and sabar drums.

Brass section:

Patric Kenny- trombone and writing the horn arrangements in collaboration with Daniel Woodfiel

Tony Kofi - tenor saxophone

Byron Wallen- trumpet

Backing vocals:

Victor Oliveira, Fedzilla & Lis Murphy

The music sounds GREAT ! Imagine : kora that makes you shiver with dunun grooves that gets you grooving, horns that inspire you to fly, guitar that makes you float in the sea, piano that connects you with your past, a super tight rhythm section, and soaring vocals with lyrics in English and Hebrew, bringing Hebrew back to its original nomadic roots.

To bring this magic to you, we need your help to pay for:

The post-production: editing, mixing, mastering, artwork, poetic lyrics translation, manufacturing, distribution and PR campaign.

With your help I can release my debut album and support all the artists involved in the project. I’ll be able to share my music around the world, spreading messages of togetherness, celebrating diversity and female super-power, social change and love.

NEW VIDEO with Jacque Falcheti from Brazil to London

Honoured to be part of Jacque Falcheti's Cafe das Cumadi series of collaborations! Here is our version of Samba em Prelúdio by Baden-Powell & Vinicius de Moraes. I'm singing a Hebrew version of this beautiful song made by Mati Caspi & Ehud Manor. Last winter I sang with Jacque at her gig in London as part of her EU tour, hopefully we will be able to travel and tour again soon so we can sing LIVE together again.

NEW VIDEO of my song To The Distance at Sofar Sounds London is OUT!

Happy to share with you my song To The Distance, performed at Sofar Sounds London last summer with my mighty quintet!
I wrote this song in my first trip to Senegal (where I was supposed to be right now). It's about moments in life when we feel like just leaving everything, go on a fishing boat and sail to the distance, the unknown- to freedom. (what ever freedom means to you, at that moment)
In these weird times of the pandemic, let's travel through music, art, dance and our imagination! Take with you the ppl that make you feel good and loved, I would take these beautiful musicians with me:
Giuliano Osella- drums
Daniel Woodfield- saxophone
Fabienne Ambühl- keyboard and BVs
Louis Haessler- bass

New video of the song Palaver Tree by Noga Ritter , filmed at Dalston Curve Garden by Woodburner

Beautiful souvenir from our day at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden with the brilliant Woodburner!
This is a song I wrote inspired by a text I got from a dear friend who reviled to me the meaning of the palaver tree and confessed it’s what I was symbolising for him ❤️ (full lyrics below)

Thanks to the greatest musicians ever of my quintet, to bring this song to life:
Daniel Woodfield -sax
Giuliano Osella- drums
Fabienne Ambühl -piano
Louis Haessler -bass

Lyrics:

Palaver Tree

Please me
Like the shade of
My palaver tree

A tree that protect
From the hot sun and
give strength
To give you
Infinite love
Hide from the rest
For this moment of confess
Conquer me
With fleeting love

Please me
Please me
You better appease me
You better appease me

Some humans are
A gate of energy
They give and the give
And they take you
To the sky
